Tips: top row fingers
QWERTY's top letter row is where many typists lose accuracy — assign fingers clearly and return home.
Finger map (standard QWERTY)
- Left pinky: Q · left ring: W · left middle: E · left index: R and T
- Right index: Y and U · right middle: I · right ring: O · right pinky: P
Technique tips
- Reach up from home row without lifting the whole hand — keep wrists quiet.
- After every stretch, bounce back to ASDF / JKL; so the next key starts from a known place.
- Watch for "strong finger theft" (using index for everything). It feels fast at first, then caps your speed.
Drills
Use word mode chunks heavy in T, R, Y, and U, or course lines with frequent top-row letters. Slow down until the correct finger hits cleanly, then rebuild pace.
